The Lost Needle

I just lost my embroidery needle:
so small I can only thread it
by muscle memory
or magic,
so sharp and fine
I wear a leather thimble
so the dull end 
won’t stab my finger
every time
I push a stitch through.
I know I shouldn’t have set it down
reaching for more thread.
Usually, I pin it to my collar so I don’t --
